HOW THE CAREERS DEPARTMENT ALIGNS WITH TOORAK'S CAREERS STRATEGY

We have developed a key to....

The Careers Department features that align with Toorak's Careers Strategy in year 9 include:

In year nine last year, we ran a three-day career conference and this is where The Careers Department played a big role. On day two, the virtual work experience modules were the centre piece of the week. Students each picked a task and completed through the day.

The Careers Department profiling provides a complementary service to the Morrisby Assessment. The profiling helps students to identify their working style, interests and values; and then aligns these with different careers.

The Careers Department features that align with Toorak's Careers Strategy in year 10 include:

When we introduce our students to The Careers Department we start them off with the ‘profiling’.
I find this gives them a place to ‘start’ - and offers an entry point to the site. I find that exercise will spark an interest and broaden their thinking about what is available to them.

The Careers Department features that align with Toorak's Careers Strategy in year 11 include:

The Careers Department content shows students which ‘jobs’ exist within ‘industry’. This helps them identify the types of people they want to network with. As we find that students may want to work in ‘health,’ but could not tell you a ‘job role’ within that industry.

The Careers Department offers a ‘Skills Module’ on Linkedin networking. In this module students are shown how to construct an email to someone they would like to network with, and how to write questions to ask.

The Careers Department features that align with Toorak's Careers Strategy in year 12 include:

We encourage the students to use the platform to research a bit more about the particular area they are considering, and then we can start talking about university courses and pathways. So that’s been a very powerful way to add value in one-on-one sessions.

The platform is built for students.

“That’s the beauty of the platform; that it’s flexible and that it’s tailored to them. I think the fact that they were engaged for the full day is due to fact that the content is dynamic.”

Broaden Horizons.

"When we introduce our students to The Careers Department we start them off with the ‘profiling’. I find this gives them a place to ‘start’ - and offers an entry point to the site. Honestly,I think that’s what our job is, it’s to get them thinking beyond traditional careers. “

Provides a safe platform for students to explore.

“In years nine and ten students have limited careers knowledge or work experience so The Careers Department provides a safe platform for them to explore a range of things without having to front up to a workplace, act professional and act like they know what they’re doing.”
